The Clarendon Hotel is a classic Newcastle venue with a unique art deco interior. The front bar houses a historic Australian feel to it and attracts that classic Australian clientele along with modern groups for dining and events.
We were commissioned to design and paint a mural that represented the front bar of the hotel and we instantly wanted to create something type based. Classic Australian pubs were once proud of where they stood and the many yarns that were shared in establishments were never forgotten. We thought this hotel should do the same.
We wanted to share the rich history behind The Clarendon Hotel with a classic Australian Hotel style mural. Block lettering styles with heritage tones were used to match the tiles on the front bar while the silver/grey outlines and lettering matched the chrome trim around the tables and the shelving behind the bar.
The dried hops leaves were later added to provide depth to the work and also relate to the colour of the tiles within the front bar. A clean classic hand painted mural that any regular is now proud to sit in front of.
